What does Gifted and Talented mean?

“Children with one or more abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to do so)” DCSF 2009
Being Gifted and Talented means that the student has the ability to achieve higher levels of achievement that other pupils in the year group. They have a natural ability in more than one subject and could also show high levels of leadership, decision making and organisation skills. If students work hard to develop these natural abilities, they have the potential to excel both in school and in the future.
Pupils are identified through a combination of sources including objective test data such as MidYs tests and end of Key Stage results, referrals from teachers and recommendations from previous schools.
