English Schools Athletic Association (ESAA) Track and Field Cup – Round 1

For the first time in Tenison’s history we competed in the prestigious ESAA track and field cup. The competition has an exciting format. All members of the team have to compete in one track and one field or one track and a relay or one field and a relay event. Tactics are needed and only an athletes best effort regardless of position will get the maximum points for your team.

Each competing athlete gets a score for their team for each event ranging between 0 and 28. Only the countries top athltes may score over 28 by running an English Schools qualifying time.

This competition is contested by the very best in the country and for our first competition the teams performed well.

We hope to have done enough to qualify for the regional ‘B’ final and with some soncentrated training (particularly in the field events) and a few changes to the squads now we understand the required strategy even more we have high hopes for the two teams. We wait to see the pending results from Surrey’s competition 2 and 3.

The results as they stand are below with individual performances.

Mr Cook and Mr Scott are really proud of every athlete that competed. A few tweaks and some coaching and we have a great team ready to improve in the next round.

Two memorable performnaces from the day were James van-Selm’s and Tochi Jibuiki’s guttsy 800m races. Both athletes recorded times well above there PB and scored well above their target points for that event. Just two examples of brilliant individual achievements in this team competition. Well done!

Eljay Morris 11B - Stars for the London Region to win National Basketball Regional Tournament

Up and coming Basketball star Eljay Morris begun the 2016-17 Basketball season in winning style after helping the London Region win the National Basketball Regional Tournament in Manchester.

The two day tournament on 17th and 18th September consisted of group stage matches against the North East, Yorkshire, East Midlands and the South West before beating the East Midlands (who they lost to in the group stages) in the final on Sunday.

Eljay's Basketball career is very exciting for all of us and we are keeping a keen eye on his progress. Eljay is certainly reaping the rewards for hours and hours of practice.

Well done Eljay!

Surrey County Octathlon Champion - Reuben Vaughan - 11R
Surrey County Athletics Track and Field Championships 10th and 11th September 2016

Reuben Vaughan competed in the Surrey County Athletics Octathlon and won the Surrey County Athletics Track and Field Championships. Competing for Croydon Harriers, Reuban took part in eight events with points being awarded for his achievements in each event. At the end of day one, Reuben finished in second place, with over 250 points behind the leader after competing in the 100m Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot Put and 400m.

A huge effort on day two in the High Jump, Discus, Javelin and 1500m saw Reuben take Gold with a margin of 50 points.

A truly magnificent and gutsy performance!

Well done Reuben.
