Modern Languages

Learning languages forms an important part of the curriculum throughout the school and we offer pupils the opportunity to study both French and German from year 7 and throughout KS3. At KS4 all pupils take a language for GCSE.

We also run successful and well-supported exchange programmes with schools in both France and Germany.

We have a varied enrichment programme so that our pupils can experience other languages and see that languages form an important part of everyday life and in the past we have organised:

• Visits from a theatre company
• Pupils performing in the target language
• Spanish, Russian and Latin courses
• Japanese and Italian taster sessions
• Watching target language films
• French cafés
• Cooking different national specialities using authentic recipes

In year 7 pupils are assessed and are then set from year 8 onwards to ensure that the top pupils are stretched and sufficiently challenged and our SENs pupils receive extra support and encouragement.

We also subscribe to a number of language websites, interactive resources magazines, which encourage pupils to become independent learners.
