Technology

The Technology team comprises a dedicated group of teachers and technicians whose goal is to ensure that students enjoy a creative and educational experience in all our fields of expertise. We have a great deal of passion for our various subjects and make this enthusiasm into a force that inspires our students.

From Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5, students have the opportunity to study Technology in a variety of elements. These start from Year 7 and encompass Food, Graphics and Resistant Materials. At GCSE, AS and A Level we offer Both Food Technology and Resistant Materials/Product Design.

The department is  well-resourced with three dedicated areas with a  Food Technology room equipped for 20, Workshop facilities and a versatile Design studio The department uses some state of the art technologies including CAD/CAM packages, a laser cutter and vinyl cutters. Students are provided with the opportunity to work practically in Technology and learn to use a variety of tools and equipment.

The Technology areas always buzz with activity and creative work. This is due to the department staff who take a keen interest in design  and  its applications and enjoy encouraging students to come up with new and innovative ideas.

The department enjoys engaging in cross curricular opportunities and works with the other departments on classroom and extra curricular activities, including modelling workshops for castle building for Year 7 and a WW2 street party with Year 9. Modern Languages enjoy cultural cooking opportunities across all years.

Technology encompasses everything around us and the environment. We hope that by inspiring our students to look more critically at the products around them, they will in turn influence future design in one way or another and make it more functional, aesthetic and sustainable.
